Rejoice in the Lord Always . . .

This year’s school theme is based on Philippians 4:4—Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! And this year, FVL has quite a lot to rejoice about. Student numbers continue growing, blessing us with another record enrollment: 777 to start the year. This means that more young hearts and minds than ever are gathering daily under our roof to study the Word of God in chapel, devotions, and in their classes. Of course, higher student traffic on campus creates needs around the building, and the Lord has continued to provide opportunities to meet those needs.

Completed, Current, and Upcoming Projects

Rendering of the Sports Center exterior with the words

Construction of the Sports Center, funded by a donation from the Trout family, is nearly complete. The outdoor tennis courts were ready for practice at the beginning of August, though continuing construction on the building has prevented the hosting of matches and spectators, and from allowing public use of the courts for the time being. The Center, which includes indoor tennis courts, basketball courts, batting cages, volleyball courts, a practice wrestling area, a putting green, and golf simulators, allows more space and flexibility for sports programs and PE classes.

The Dedication and Open House is scheduled for Sunday, November 10, from 1:30-2:30 PM. Weather permitting, we will begin outside with a brief dedication, after which all are invited to walk through the new building.

COMPLETED - Auditorium Lights

Students, staff, and faculty gather together in the Auditorium almost daily to worship during chapel. Replacing burned-out bulbs in the high ceiling has always been a huge task, but thanks to a donation from The Bargain Garden Thrift Shop, all of the old lights were replaced with new LED bulbs this past summer. Not only will these bulbs last longer, but they will also significantly reduce energy consumption in the Auditorium.

CURRENT - Tech Wing Flooring

Shiny new floor in the tech wing hallway

Also with funding from The Bargain Garden and other designated gifts, the floors in the 2200 wing of the building are being replaced. The new flooring requires less maintenance to retain its shine. Last summer the hallway was completed, along with one of the classrooms. This leaves two classrooms to be worked on later this fall.

CURRENT - Football and Track & Field Storage

Partially constructed storage facility near the track/football field

A seven-stall storage facility is being built to accommodate football and track needs. Two stalls are planned for track & field equipment storage, two for football equipment storage, one for equipment maintenance and repair, and two are reserved for team meetings. These meeting rooms will be separated with a double-door opening that will offer coaches the versatility of having whole team meetings in one space or simultaneous group meetings in two spaces (e.g. offensive and defensive). The old two-stall storage garage has been relocated to the meadows practice fields to free up space for this new structure.

FUTURE - Fitness Center

Lots of students using and waiting for lifting equipment in the fitness center

Due to growing enrollment and the desire for student-athletes to get bigger, faster, and stronger, the fitness center is already maxed out. With the relocation of batting and wrestling practices to the new sports center, there may be an opportunity to demo all or part of the interior wall, increasing the size of the fitness center. FVL is currently requesting gifts to begin the process of an expansion and repurposing of the space to best meet our current and future needs for both athletics and curricular offerings in our PE department.

FUTURE - Softball Field

The increase in enrollment also prompts the consideration of expanding our baseball and softball programs. According to FVL coaches, an additional softball field, placed in the now grassy area of the former tennis courts, would potentially enable the addition of a JV2 level to both baseball and softball. With slight modifications, the current “utility field” could be converted from a multi-use field to a designated JV baseball field. Adding a softball field to campus would be a considerable cost (nearly $350,000), but it would result in significant improvement of FVL’s baseball, softball, and youth programs.
